A Review on the Book " The Absolutely True Diary of a Part - Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

The Absolutely  True Diary of a Part - Time Indian is a young adult novel by Sherman Alexie. Its main character is Junior who born with water on the brain and an Indian living on a reservation. In the book, Junior narrates his story, on how he was bullied, persuaded by his teacher to transfer school, fitted in in his new all-white school, and struggled to bring back the trust of his best friend.

This book was fun to read because of the way the writer delivered the story and accompanied by adorable illustrations. I was really hooked of Junior's life, his culture, lifestyle, thoughts and decision in life. Honestly, I am impressed by him, that no matter how bad the situation is, he still have a positive outlook and continued his life without delving in the past. He proved that no matter how disabled, unskilled, poor, and unlikable you are, you can still make the best out of life.

I really relate to Junior because I am too, is raise in and now struggling in poverty, but still I fight, I write, and do what I can to elavate my status. Like him, I won't let myself get stuck in poverty and depression, like all my ancestors did. I will break the chain.

In this book, I got the chance to have a glimpse on a culture that I was never introduced. I adores all the characters and if they are all real, I wish them all the best. The narration was amazing and a great book for all ages to read.

According to Rizal's statement," Indolence in the Philippines is a chronic malady but not a hereditary one." He supported it with many reasons that I absolutely agree with. He stated that, "We must confess that indolence does actually and positively exist there; only that, instead of holding it to be the cause of the backwardness and the trouble, we regard it as the effect of the trouble and the backwardness". For me as a reader, he wanted to state that indolence is not the cause of mishaps, but bad circumstances can cause a person to be indolent. Among his reasons were the climate of the Philippines, the piratical attacks, the negligence of the Spaniards, forced labor and abuse of the Spaniards, gambling, the influence of the church, and the crooked educational system of the Spaniards. ...
